The World I Live in Helen Keller 9781141214228 Books
The writings of Helen Keller will always stand the test of time, and will always have something profound, for any and every generation. Her vivid and thought provoking explanation of how she interprets her environment is stunningly beautiful.
It is filled with interesting historical tidbits, too. She describes the hands of some of the famous people she has met, such as Mark Twain, and what those hands 'said' to her.
This book is also a reminder that many people today need alternative ways to communicate. Most of us know someone with a 'low functioning' loved one on the autism spectrum. I think it is important to remember that in Keller's time, she was considered 'low functioning'. I pray we find the key to unlock autism, and Keller's life and writings offer hope that one day that door, like hers, will be unlocked.

The World I Live in Helen Keller 9781141214228 Books Reviews
I had no idea of parts of the senses that go unused. Helen Keller gave detailed readings of the world and activities. This felt like it had a poetry slant to her story.
It is a difficult read, I like the book, but only once.
This book is amazing! To think what Helen Keller went through is almost mind boggling. She was a wonderful woman who stood her ground for what she believed in, despite not being able to hear or see. She overcame obstacles that would make your head spin. The book "The World I Live In" reveals so much about her life. Read it and you, too, will be amazed.
Helen Keller asks, and answers the questions, "lf we can see, can we still be blind?" And "Just because l'm blind dos rthat mean l can't still see?"
As a nurse, I deal with a lot of patient challenges but reading this gave me a new perspective of the challenges vision & hearing impaired patients go through. This showed me that my perception was way off. Great book! Easy to read & understand. Highly recommend it!
This is a wonderful book and an inspiration to read. I especially enjoyed seeing how the relationship of this once
bratty child progressed through and because of the fantastic work of her friend and teacher. She opened up the brilliant mind of
Helen who was subsequently able to communicate with the world around her. The early loss of her two important
senses of sight and hearing, were a mere minor obstacle to Helen as she heightened and made use of her remaining
senses that most of us just take for granted.
I'm was overwhelmed with the amazing insight to Helen's world and how God allowed her to see and hear by his spirit guiding her through touch smell and revelations he imparted to her. I love her statement I always knew he was there but I didn't know his name unti I was introduced to him at 17
